The development trend of single-use syringes

Due to the current clinical use of disposable sterile syringes, there are many drawbacks, and the World Health Organization has put forward new requirements for safe injections. China began to use and implement new types of syringes such as self-destructing syringes and safety syringes at the end of the 20th century.

1 Self-Destruct Syringe

In order to solve the problem of unsafe injection, the World Health Organization, United Nations Population Fund, United Nations Children's Fund and other organizations jointly proposed to promote the application of self-destructing syringes. At present, the common self-destructing syringes include bite type, piston destruction type, piston drop type, and needle retraction type. Using the characteristics of self-destructing syringes that the needle retracts automatically after use and cannot be reused, it can reduce the unsafe injection behavior of "only changing the needle without changing the needle tube", and has been used more and more in my country.

2 safety syringes

The safety syringe is based on the self-destructing syringe, with the added function of protecting medical staff. At present, the common safety syringes are basically divided into three categories: needle retraction type, outer sliding sleeve type and needle tip outer type. Compared with the current clinical use syringes and self-destructing syringes, safety syringes are safer, but their production and clinical promotion are limited due to their complicated design and high cost. However, with the improvement of people's living standards and the continuous strengthening of safety awareness, safety syringes will surely develop rapidly.

3 Prefilled Syringes

A prefilled syringe refers to a new product of "medical-device combination" in which a sterilized syringe is filled with liquid medicine in advance, so that it is convenient for medical staff or patients to inject medicine at any time. It has the advantages of being easy to use, reducing dispensing errors, avoiding uneven concentration when extracting medicinal liquid, and being capable of mass production. At present, prefilled syringes account for an increasing share of the international syringe market sales, coupled with the continuous innovation, these new technologies will also promote the further development of the prefilled syringe market.

4 Needleless Syringes

Needleless injector, also known as jet injector, is a new type of injection device that uses a different traditional injection needle to puncture the skin for drug delivery. Currently, needle-free injectors are mainly divided into three types: needle-free powder injectors, needle-free projectile injectors and needle-free liquid injectors. It is widely used in the treatment of various chronic diseases, such as diabetes, tumor, infectious disease prevention and vaccination, because of its advantages of reducing the patient's fear, fast injection speed, and no need to dispose of needles. It is believed that with the continuous development of needle-free syringe technology, needle-based syringes will be replaced in larger fields.

Summary of Single Use Syringes

To sum up, although the single-use sterile syringes currently used clinically in China can avoid cross-infection to a certain extent, the incidence of cross-infection remains at a relatively high level due to the imperfect system of some medical institutions. In addition, it is easy to cause needle stick injuries in medical staff during the operation, thereby causing occupational injuries. New syringes such as self-destructing syringes and safety syringes are safer and more reliable, effectively reducing the incidence of cross-infection and needle stick injuries, and can be vigorously promoted and applied in clinical practice.
